Privacy Policy
What stays on your device
Your journal entries, gratitude notes, mood logs, breathe sessions, and local settings stay on your device.
Kind Messages
Kind Messages are anonymous exchanges between adult users. When you send, answer, report, or delete kind message data, limited message content and safety metadata may be processed by Luvia services so the feature can work and abuse can be prevented.
We process:
- Message and reply text (so it can be moderated and delivered to another user)
- A pseudonymous user identifier tied to your Sign in with Apple account
- Locale and time-zone hints sent by the app
- A device push token, so we can notify you about a new message or reply (stored only if you enable notifications)
- Safety state such as report counts, dismissals, and ban status
- The email address associated with your Sign in with Apple account (which may be a private Apple relay address), so we can contact you about your account and, only if you opt in, send occasional marketing emails (see "Email communications and marketing")
- Crash and error telemetry (no journal, mood, gratitude, or breathe content). User identifiers in these logs are stored only in hashed form.
We do not link your messages to your real name or contact list, we never use your email address for advertising, and we do not share it with any third-party advertising identifier. Your email is stored separately from your Kind Messages content and is keyed only to your pseudonymous account identifier.
Sign in with Apple
Sign in with Apple is used for account access and Kind Messages abuse prevention. When you sign in, an authentication account is created for you with our backend provider (Supabase) so the service can recognise you across sessions and devices. We request the email address associated with your Apple ID (which may be a private Apple relay address that forwards to your real inbox); see "Email communications and marketing" for how we use it. Luvia does not request your name, and your Apple identifier is stored only as needed to protect the service.
Email communications and marketing
When you sign in, we store the email address associated with your Apple ID so we can contact you about your account, such as subscription receipts and other essential service messages. This email is stored separately from your Kind Messages content and is keyed only to your pseudonymous account identifier.
If, and only if, you check the optional box at sign-in, we will also send you occasional marketing emails about Luvia, such as offers and product news. We rely on your consent as the lawful basis for these marketing emails. You can withdraw consent and stop marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any such email, or by contacting us through our support page. Withdrawing consent does not affect essential account or billing emails.
We permanently delete your stored email address when you delete your account or your Kind Messages data.
Subscriptions
Subscription billing is handled by Apple and by our subscription provider, RevenueCat. Luvia receives entitlement status (active / not active) but does not receive your payment card or full billing details. RevenueCat may receive a billing email address provided by Apple in order to send subscription receipts.
Safety checks and moderation
Luvia runs both on-device and server-side checks (including third-party moderation services such as OpenAI's moderation endpoint) to detect threats, harassment, sexual content, self-harm, contact or payment details, links, spam, or other unsafe content before a kind message is shared. The same checks run on our servers so they cannot be bypassed. Content that fails these checks may be blocked, hidden, or queued for human review.
Kind Messages is available in English and Spanish only. To keep moderation reliable, messages written in unsupported languages or scripts may be blocked.
Children and minors
Luvia is not intended for children or minors under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
If you are under 18, do not use Luvia or submit personal information, journal content, Kind Messages, reports, or any other content through the app.
If we learn that we have collected personal information from someone under 18, we will delete it where reasonably possible, except where limited records must be retained for safety, abuse prevention, legal compliance, or protection of other users.
Your rights (GDPR / UK GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region with similar protections, you have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or port the personal data we hold about you. Luvia services are operated from the EU. To exercise these rights, or to ask about the lawful basis for any processing, contact us through our support page. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Your rights (California / US state privacy laws)
If you are a California resident or live in a US state with similar privacy laws, you have the right to request access to or deletion of personal information we hold about you, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. Contact us through our support page to make a request.
Data retention
Local data lives on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. Kind Messages content is retained only as long as needed to operate the feature, moderate it, and respond to reports. When you delete your Kind Messages data or your account, the message and reply text you authored, your push tokens, your locale context, and your stored email address are permanently erased from our servers; messages written by other people that happened to be assigned to you are simply unassigned so they can return to the pool. Banned users' minimal safety records may be retained longer to prevent re-abuse.
Backups and deletion
Device backups can include your journal, gratitudes, moods, and breathe sessions when you choose to export them. Kind Messages are excluded from backups. You can delete local kind message history from settings, and Luvia will permanently delete the related server-side data you authored. Account and Kind Messages data deletion remains available even if your subscription has ended.
What we do not do
Luvia does not sell your personal data. Luvia does not use your private journal, mood, gratitude, or breathe content for advertising. Luvia does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.
Third-party services
To operate Luvia we use:
- Apple: Sign in with Apple, App Store billing, push and background delivery.
- Supabase: hosting of Kind Messages backend and authentication, operated in the EU.
- RevenueCat: subscription entitlement management.
- OpenAI: automated moderation of Kind Messages content.
- Resend: sending transactional billing emails and, where you have opted in, marketing emails.
Each of these processes only the minimum data needed for its function.
Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated "Last updated" date.

Terms of Service
Use of Luvia
Luvia is for personal reflection, mood tracking, breathing practice, gratitude, and anonymous kind messages. You are responsible for how you use the app and for following applicable laws.
Age requirement
Luvia is intended for adults who are 18 years old or older. You may use Luvia only if you are at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your country of residence, whichever is higher.
If you are under 18, you may not use Luvia, create an account, submit Kind Messages, or provide personal information through the app. We may limit, suspend, or terminate access if we believe a user does not meet this requirement.
Not medical care
Luvia is not therapy, medical care, crisis support, or emergency care. Nothing in Luvia is a substitute for advice from a qualified professional. If you may hurt yourself or someone else, contact local emergency services or a trusted person immediately.
Kind Messages: community rules
Luvia, including Kind Messages, is intended for adults who are 18 or older. Kind Messages are for supportive, non-romantic, anonymous encouragement.
You agree not to post, send, or share any of the following through Kind Messages or any other user-facing feature:
- Names, contact details, phone numbers, emails, addresses, social media handles, or links
- Threats, harassment, intimidation, bullying, or stalking
- Sexual content, sexually suggestive material, or content sexualising minors
- Hateful, discriminatory, or violent content targeting any group or individual
- Spam, scams, advertising, or promotional content
- Instructions or encouragement to harm yourself or others
- Illegal content, content that infringes others' rights, or content that violates applicable law
This is a zero-tolerance policy for objectionable content and abusive behaviour. We do not allow it on Luvia.
Reporting, blocking, and moderation
If you see a Kind Message or reply that violates these rules:
- Use the Report action inside the app to flag it.
- Use the Block action to prevent further contact from that user.
We review reports and take action within 24 hours of receiving them. Action can include removing the content, warning the user, restricting their account, or permanently ejecting them from Kind Messages and from Luvia.
We also run automated moderation before any Kind Message reaches another user, and we may proactively remove content or restrict access even without a user report when we identify abuse.
Your content
You keep responsibility for the content you create. For Kind Messages, you give Luvia a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free permission to process, moderate, store, deliver, and delete that content as needed to operate the feature and keep it safe. You can request deletion of your Kind Messages data at any time from inside the app or through our support page.
Safety and access
We may block, remove, limit, hide, or report content or access when needed to protect people or the service. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Users who engage in repeated or serious abusive behaviour will be permanently ejected from the service.
Subscriptions
Luvia Pro is offered through an auto-renewing subscription billed through the Apple App Store. The price, billing period, and any introductory offer are shown in the app and in the App Store before purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time from your Apple ID settings. Refunds are handled by Apple according to App Store policy.
Service changes
Luvia may change, pause, or discontinue features. We try to build carefully, but the app is provided as is and may not always be available or error-free.
Liability
To the extent permitted by law, Luvia is provided without warranties of any kind, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the European Union jurisdiction in which Luvia is operated, without limiting any mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence.
Contact
Questions about these terms can be sent through our support page or by email using the contact address at the top of this page.
